GO DEEP on Your Emotional Eating!
Before I start this subject, I highly recommend you getting a Journal this will help you go deep into your emotional eating. It helps you become aware of what you are doing and to be present in our lives. So, I want you to buy a journal. It doesn’t have to be fancy; but A word of warning: It may be tough to journal when the tough feelings come up, so start journaling during a stress-free day.
Make Journaling a Daily Habit
Get into that daily habit so even on stress-filled days you’ll be able to sit and journal your feelings, as difficult as it may be. Journal every morning about how you feel and your plan for the day.
Are You Emotionally Hungry?
So Going Deep - Too Often The Emotional Eating Does Not Come From Wanting A Doughnut Or Pizza Or Feeling Deprived...Right?
We feel emotionally hungry. Accept those feelings and dig deep to discover why you're Emotionally Hungry.
What’s missing in your life?
Journal these thoughts so you can reflect on them during the next days, weeks, or months.
What are your deepest desires?
When you feel emotionally hungry? Write them down in your journal. Make sure you write at least 5.
Now take a deep breath, because there is no judgement, this is your journal that is a safe space to write and release your inner demons.
There are no right or wrong answers. There are no dark secrets here. This is emotional freedom. You are setting yourself free . Today. Now.
We can't let go of food as the healer unless we set our hidden secrets free and let our voice free.
Are you Keeping Secrets where food is concerned?
You should eat with the intention of being in full view of others - well what does that mean? Well it means not sneaking - if you eat alone, it means not being afraid that someone will walk in the door and see what you’re eating- that would be okay.
It means telling the truth about the food you eat. Not hiding the food you are eating or eating in secret.
Do you Sneak food?
So examples would be:
- Ordering a cake at the bakery for yourself and telling the cashier it is for your kids.
- Or eating modest amounts of food at a party, then coming home and eating a meal.
- Or eating in the car, so no one will know.
- Or eating in another room in the house, so nobody will know or find out.
Is there someone special in your life that you feel would be disappointed if she/he knew what and how much you ate?
It would be a good idea to do some homework on this - such as journal daily about absolutely anything that’s on your mind.
Allow yourself 5 minutes of quiet meditation to calm the body and quiet the brain. And a good Tip here would be - stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
Journal Prompts
The journaling prompt provides what is called a sentence starter, and the journaling flows from there. For example, you could do a journal entry starting with "Right now, I feel ____". And you fill in the blank with a word, a phrase or a longer response.
Make your Journal entries focused on the positive as much as you can and allow it to be spontaneous.
Activity:
Set the Time for 2 minutes and write from this sentence starter prompt. It's a great way to bring mindful, emotional self-awareness to the beginning of a journaling session.Apart from the questions above, here are some more examples of sentence prompts:
- Right now, I notice ____.
- When I am at my best, I am normally feeling or doing ______.
- I feel confident when _____.
- My greatest source of pride is ______.
- One of the things that I have overcome that makes me the person I am today is ______.
